Is it possible...?

to suffer from more than 1 disorder? i've been researching and a lot of them seem to sound like me. ie: bipolar, post tramatic stress disorder, dissociative amnesia/identity... is there anyway to be sure besides professional diagnosis? Is it possible...?
Yes you can have more than 1 disorder and the best way to know for sure is by a professional. But if you read the DSM IV (Diagnostic %26amp; Satistical Manual for Mental Disorders 4th addition) it will explain the critirea needed to have such disorders. Doctors use this book and it can be helpful and/or harmful. It is helpful to get an idea of what might be wrong with you. Harmful because you are not a doctor and it is very easy to talk yourself into thinking you have a disorder when you don't. People do it all the time.

You can buy the book at a book store and you may be able to rent it from the libary. If anything it is intresting reading.
Yes, it is possible. I would go get a professional diagnosis. For the longest time I think I had obsessive compulsive disorder, but I didn't.Is it possible...?
I dont thnk so professional diagnosis is always best.
No, professional diagnosis is required, rather then having us guess here.Is it possible...?
Not really, the only way to really know is to go and talk to a phycologist. They will diagnos you....
very possible, I have like 7 different things wrong with me, and I just thought I was slightly sad when I went to the psychologist.

me: borderline personality,( bipolar + major depressive disorder(depression) )PTSD, OCD, and binge eating disorder
the only way to know for sure is to have a complete psych eval including written and verbal tests by a Psychologist they are trained to diagnos
It is definitely possible to suffer from multiple disorders at once. Unfortunately, many disorders have overlapping symptoms (and very different treatments), so there is no way to be sure of a diagnosis without seeing a professional.

You can do some research online (http://www.psychiatryonline.com/referral鈥?/a> or at the library in the DSM-IV to get more in-depth information on each disorder to get a better idea of what you want to talk to a doctor about, but I wouldn't suggest trying to treat this on your own. Mental illness doesn't just go away once you know the symptoms. It is *very* difficult to treat on your own. I would highly suggest seeing a psychiatrist (they can manage medications whereas a psychologist just does talk therapy) to see what they say. They are the experts, and can map out a game plan that will have you on the road to recovery MUCH faster than you could be on your own. With such a variety of possible disorders affecting you, you really need a professional's intervention to start you on the road to taking your life back!

Good luck!
