How can I treat myself from complex PTSD?

I have complex PTSD, dissociative disorder, and dissociative amnesia.

How can I treat it by myself? I`m in therapy, but I want to do more.

I was abused in my childhood, I don`t remember it, so I can`t talk about it.

Everything feels so unreal.

I can`t concentrate.

My emotions run my life, and I want to learn how to deal with them. How can I treat myself from complex PTSD?
I don't know how much money you have to spend on treatment, but if you look around, you may be able to find an acupuncturist who treats PTSD. I don't think that you should be doing anything more cognitively to work on your issues, since you already have a hard time concentrating. You may find some forms of meditation helpful, but it sounds like you need to be patient and gentle with yourself.

If you want to learn how to deal with your emotions, the book "Healing Through the Dark Emotions," by Miriam Greenspan, is an excellent book. Yes, I know, reading is a cognitive activity, but this is a book that is worth reading, and Greenspan focuses a lot on where the emotions are in the body. She talks about listening to the wisdom of the emotions--what they are telling you and what they are asking of you.

Again, I want to stress that probably what you need most is to be patient and gentle with yourself. Healing is a long process, and you can't speed it up by working harder. Take care of yourself, okay?
I was abused also, and do remember it. For me, the most helpful thing was going to a sexual abuse support group along with regular counseling. The counselor moderated this group, so it was kept safe. The group helped me more than the counseling, but I think a person needs both. I was abused over many years by more than one person, so I hope you do give consideration to finding a group. Your therapist may know of a good one.

All the best to you!How can I treat myself from complex PTSD?
well dis-associative identity disorder sounds more like what you have to me. You have bouts of what you call amnesia and it isn't really, what is happening is a "Alter" a different personality that resides within your body has now taken control of your body and you have no memory of what has happened during this time. That is what is known as "loosing time" all multiples have to deal with this issue. Until the other personalities including yourself realize you all must work as a unit in harmony to have any kind of a fulfilling life. But that is along time coming. Try to ask inside your mind for any names anyone may have it there. They will most likely answer you by thought. But if this is MPD remember each personality has it's own likes and dislikes... it's own way of doing things... it's own way of dressing. Just like a totally different person. Even handwriting changes. There are a few things you can watch out for and they will help clue you in. Just ask in thoughts is there anyone else in here with me? ask them to tell you their names. Another pretty good indicator is headaches unexplained really bad ones. crying for no reason. All indicators. Hope this helps you out some anyways. If you ever want to talk just email me from my profile page and I will give you my IM info. Best of luck to you. Gentle hugs
You need to stick with therapy - but you must realize that there are many theoretical orientations and some work better for PTSD than others. A cognitive behavioral therapist that is experienced with exposure therapy is the type that is recognized as getting the best results. You may want to try neurofeedback since this gets results as well. If you have family and friends supporting you, then you have to make sure that they are not getting stressed out as well so that they will be a consistent support for you. There is a great self hypnosis CD that supports veterans families (see resource box). God bless you and best of luck to you.How can I treat myself from complex PTSD?
Stay with therapy and do what the Docs say. I agree, there are certainly times when self diagnosis and self therapy are not the best thing. Also, if you are on medication, don't monkey with your dosages without speaking to your physicians. If you aren't on meds, perhaps the time has come in your treatment to discuss that, also.

Have you tried to do something that requires little concentration, like knitting, crocheting, or drawing or painting? Art is always a positive thing. My thoughts will be with you. Take care.
you can go to forums and chat with other ppl having the same thing.

or you can find the information as much as you can about your problem.. and while you learn, you'll feel better.

go to this forum :

i have ptsd myself.. and am trying to get better..

hope this helps :D
Self-treatment is a futile as self-diagnosis. Stay in therapy and don't go trying to treat yourself; you'll only make things worse.
Try hypnosis.
If you can't remember it then it did not happen.
Get a shot of penicillin and make sure you use condoms
