The police find a man who is disheveled and in a daze wandering through the downtown area. When the police ask him for his name, he seems bewildered. A search of missing persons photographs reveals that this man was reported missing three months ago in a town more than 700 miles away. The man is most likely suffering from_________.

A. schizophrenia

B. dissociative fugue

C. dissociative amnesia

D. dissociative identity disorderPSYCHOANALYTIC........?
The answer is B. dissociative fugue.

People suffering from dissociative fugue travel many miles from home, found very confused, don't remember how they got to the place they are at now, don't remember where they came from, don't know the names of family or friends, and don't even know their own name. It is usually caused from severe stress or traumatic events in one's life.

A. Schizophrenia is incorrect because the man is not displaying any signs of hallucinations or paranoia. C. Dissociative amnesia is incorrect because the man has a complete blackout for all events in his life. He doesn't know who he is, where is he from, or how he got to the place he is in now. People suffering from dissociative amnesia only have the amnesia/forgetfulness for a specific even in their life. D. Dissociative identity disorder is incorrect because the man is not claiming to be somebody else, nor is displaying actions or behaviors that are inconsistent with his primary personality... dissociative identity disorder is also know as multiple personality disorder. This man is not showing signs of multiples.
