Split Personality & Alter Ego Questions?

Are they the same thing or are they two totally different things?

Can you have dissociative identity disorder without having amnesia.

For those of you that have it or know well about it, what's it like for the people. Inside their head I mean. Do they hear multiple thems talking to them? Or is it silent? Or what? I'm just curious. Recently watched Sybil, both the 1st remake and the 2nd remake. Both were well done, but the 1st was the best. Anyway, it got me wondering.Split Personality %26amp; Alter Ego Questions?
I think we all have a bit of alter ego - which is essentially being "full of ourselves" at some time in our life. Most of us can control our ego and not stretch it so far out of whack that we turn it against us or hurt others.

However, Sybil is a portrait of what happens to some people who are extremely and severely mistreated. The mind splits and aids us in building "divided rooms" (or personalities) to cope with certain events. This is a rare disorder but it is a survival skill that some people are able to develop in order to maintain order in their life.

Most people get Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and become self abusive or turn violent against others.
