Okay, I understand that they for get traumatic events, can they forget just about that event and the surrounding events that were linked to it? D they ever make up pieces to make the puzzle of life make sense? If not is there a disorder that is more closely relevant to what I'm asking? How do you know this? Thanks!People with dissociative amnesia?
I have or had dissociative amnesia, i feel better now. Yes, I forgot about the traumatic part, but not about the rest. It just don`t make sense. With some help I were able to remember, but I`m still confused and not sure that what I remember is what really happened, it could have been something similar. I forget other event also, I can be at school, then I suddenly home again, but I don`t remember going home or making the decision to go home. Everyone make up pieces, our memory is reconstructive and constructive. That means that we have to recreate every memory every time we remember something. We also fill in parts to make our memory meaningful. (I study psychology) You could read about false memories, and research made by Elizabeth Lofthus. She has done some really interesting research about constructive memory. Some people use this research to argue that dissociative disorders don`t exist. Other argue that remembering or forgetting traumatic events are different than remembering event in experiments. I believe that traumatic events are different than ordinary memories.
Not sure if this is what your looking for. Hope it helped. I`m sorry if my english is bad, it`s not my native language.
