Is it possible to invent memories?

I know there is such a thing as Dissociative Amnesia, where a person makes themselves forget something that is traumatic. But, is it possible for a person to have a breakdown in which they invent memories - and then come to believe in them?Is it possible to invent memories?
yes. it can happen in different forms. Delusions are when people believe things that aren't real. People in denial refuse to belive in something. then there is the power of suggestion. I studied a case a while back where a mans two daughters accused him of being involved in a satanic cult and sexually molesting and raping them. The man admitted to the crimes. Long story short, his daughters eventually came clean and said that they had made up the whole thing. They actually had their father believing he did it. I also work now with young girl who makes up fictional people and lives in a fantasy world where she is a dog much of the time. She has been told, and she knows that this is made up, but her fantasy world is very real to her. She makes up any person that she feels she is lacking in her life, boyfriends (a couple of days ago she told me "my husband is going to come get me out of here), people that watch over her. She often will say she is pregnant, and its usually with a litter of puppies or some other odd animal. Is it possible to invent memories?
Absolutely! This can (and does) happen to people all the time. Watch this youtube interview with psychologist Dr. Loftus ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQr_IJvYz鈥?/a> ) where she discusses a study in which they examined how easy it is to create a memory. Our brains have trouble keeping track of where various input comes from, and so we wind up believing things happened that never actually happened. Is it possible to invent memories?
Yes. Liars, in fact, do it all the time.
I'm sure there's some form of psychosis that causes that.
